Grant # 61
Truckee River Cleanup Day is designed to raise awareness about the importance of a clean and healthy river, while actively engaging residents in keeping the Truckee River clean. The project involves identifying “hot spot” areas along the river from the Verdi Dam to Vista Boulevard. Hot spot areas are identified by park staff and project partners as areas in need of litter pickup and trash removal, tree wrapping, weed pulling, graffiti removal and storm drain stenciling. Volunteer recruitment is then based on the number of volunteers needed to address these areas. On the day of the event, section leaders at identified hot spot locations direct volunteers in various tasks.
TMWA Benefit
This project historically removes several tons (32 tons of trash and debris was removed in 2008) of trash from the Truckee River.
