Grant # 62
The City of Sparks was successful in being awarded a grant by the Truckee River Fund in the spring of 2008, which allowed the preliminary design and alternative analysis to be initiated and to begin communication with stakeholders and the regulatory agencies. This funding request will continue to build upon this success and prepare the project for the construction phase.
TMWA Benefit
Located in the heart of the Truckee Meadows, the Pioneer Dam is one of the many existing diversion structures on the Truckee River that negatively impacts fish passage, flood control capacity, riverine function and safe recreational usage. The City of Sparks, in cooperation with the Truckee River Fund (amongst others), has initiated the coordination, planning and design to modify this structure to mitigate impacts to fish passage, flood control impacts, continued irrigation delivery and safe recreational usage. Completion of the project will also lessen flood impacts to TMWA’s Glendale Water Treatment Plant, which is directly upstream of the Pioneer Ditch Diversion.
